We’re excited to share this story from CBS Miami, which features Breakthrough Miami scholar Gerbenn Seraphin and his mentor Webber Charles, director of student achievement at Breakthrough Miami and recipient of a 2019 African American Achievers Award.
Webber and Gerbenn met while Webber was serving as a chess coach and Gerbenn was a second grade student. They instantly had a connection. When Webber started working at Breakthrough Miami a few years later, he knew he had to bring Gerbenn into the program. Since then, Webber’s and Breakthrough’s support have helped Gerbenn to excel. In the fall, he will be attending the University of Miami with a full academic scholarship. Gerbenn also mentors other young students, replicating the huge impact that Webber had on him.
We can’t wait to see what Webber and Gerbenn continue to do for their community!
