Citizen Schools is a national network of after-school education programs for students in the middle grades (6th, 7th and 8th). Our programs complement classroom learning by engaging students in hands-on learning projects led by adult volunteers after school and supported by a staff of professional educators. The Aspire Teacher Residency Program (ATR) is an intensive and supportive teacher training program in partnership with the University of the Pacific. The Los Angeles Math and Science Residency (LAMS) is an innovative and rigorous year-long teacher training partnership program that integrates practice, content, theory, and pedagogy through an in-field apprenticeship model within The College Ready Promise (TCRP) schools in the Los Angeles region. The LAMS Residency is a collaborative partnership between Loyola Marymount University’s Center for Math and Science Teaching (LMU/CMAST) and The College Ready Promise (TCRP), a coalition of California public charter management organizations serving low-income and minority students: Alliance for College Ready Public Schools, Green Dot Public Schools, and Partnerships to Uplift Communities. Empirically proven and evidence-based methodologies for math and science teaching developed and tested by the Center for Math and Science Teaching (CMAST), located within Loyola Marymount University’s School of Education, provide the foundation for the LAMS Residency program.
The Boston Teacher Residency (BTR) recruits talented college graduates, career changers and community members of all ages and gives them the tools to make an immediate impact in the classrooms of the Boston Public Schools (BPS). Philadelphia Teacher Residency (PTR) is a teacher preparation program for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) professionals and recent graduates who want to teach math and science in Philadelphia’s high need schools (grades 6-12). PTR is a partnership between the Ed Fund, the School District of Philadelphia (SDP), University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education (Penn GSE), and the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers (PFT).
The New Visions for Public Schools - Hunter College Urban Teacher Residency (UTR) is a 14-month teacher-training program that fully integrates the graduate coursework of the aspiring teacher (resident) with intensive, hands-on experiences in New York City schools. Within a strong public school, residents collaborate with expert educators around all aspects of teaching and learning. At the same time, residents take Hunter College graduate courses designed by UTR to align with experiences in urban schools. Successful completion of the program results in a master’s degree in adolescent education and certification to teach in New York City. Graduates of UTR will have the opportunity to be hired by a school within New Visions’ network of 76 public schools and are asked to commit to four years of teaching in New Visions schools after their residencies.

KIPP Memphis is a part of a network of 99 college preparatory schools operating in low-income urban and rural communities throughout the country. KIPP schools are designed to teach students in under-served communities the academic and character skills necessary for success in high school, college, and the competitive world beyond. KIPP Memphis currently serves 400 hundred middle school students and will open its first high school in the summer of 2011. Over the next five years, KIPP Memphis will expand to eight schools and serve as many as 2,500 students. KIPP DC and E.L. Haynes public charter schools have joined forces to create the Capital Teaching Residency (CTR) program. CTR is an intensive year-long teacher training program based in the highest performing charter schools in Washington, DC. From day one, residents are in an excellent, urban classroom working alongside their mentor teacher. Throughout the year, the residents gradually move from observing their mentor to conducting practice lessons and finally taking on considerable amounts of teaching responsibility. Residents receive continual, targeted feedback from their mentors, who provide daily input on every aspect of the residents’ teaching experience, as well as coaching from a school leader, an expert educator. Finally, graduates receive two years of alumni support to ensure success in the classroom.

DSST Public Schools (DSST) operates open-enrollment STEM charter schools and is part of the Denver Public Schools (DPS) system.
